Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team access places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.
